Mein liebes Herzerl. – Was willst du denn wegen Gerstl noch wissen? Was beunruhigt dich denn noch? Bist du heute mit mir zufrieden? Die Kinder sind gesund u. sehr süß. Viele, viele Küsse deine Mathilde.

My dear heart. You are complaining that I only write short letters, but it can’t be helped. I must always hurry, so that the postman can take the letter on his way back. The things you sent us have arrived just now. Both the children and I were very pleased. We thank you very much. The asparagus is most welcome. I have had a bad stomach since a few days, and the asparagus is most beneficial. Today I am feeling much better, nearly about right. People here are complaining that they all have a bad stomach in the first week. It must be the meat, that is very heavy here, – I have also received the money. Just at the right time. Mother and I together could not provide the money. I am glad to hear that you are satisfied with the old maid. I shall be able to use her here, too, as a saving. I have spent a dreadful amount of money in the first week here. 45 Gulden. All on my cushion. You know, of course, that Millie is a big consumer. I also had to purchase a lot of things that will be of use later. I am quite inconsolable about all the money. You must not think that I am doing anything extraordinary. Yesterday, for the first time we had supper at Hois’n. I could not do this more often, it’s expensive. Another 12 days, and then my dear darling will be with me. I am looking forward to it enormously. If only it were already. – So, on Monday you’ll be finished with Gärtner’s commission? That is really very good! When will he give you the money? – You surely know, that mother has taken the Engel flat. I hope the summer will pass without a quarrel. – What more do you want to know about Gerstl? I have written quite explicitly, I am longing only for you. What still disturbs you? Are you satisfied with me today? The children are well and very sweet. Many, many kisses, your Mathilde
