Mein liebes Herzerl. Deine Briefe machen mir wirklich riesige Freude.
Was fehlt denn Gerstl’s Vater? Also weißt du jetzt alles! Eigentlich schrecklich.
Viele, viele Küsse von
deiner Mathilde

My dear heart. Your letters really give me great pleasure. You really still doubt that I love you. Why? I am in the same frame of mind as you, and I could simply copy your letters, and send them to you. – Last evening the weather was very nice and I went rowing with Trudi for a while. It was very nice. – Today the weather is nice, but very cold. I hope it will get better now. You should not drink in order to be able to sleep, you can do without that.
What is wrong with Gerstl’s father? It is possible that this is the reason why he does not sleep with you. – Wait a little before you telephone, until the weather here is more reliable. I will write more often instead. Now, you will, of course laugh and say that I don’t trust the telephone. But that doesn’t matter. – I have asked Görgi what I should write, and he said, “come”. I asked Trudi, whether I should write the truth, and she said softly “no”. So now, you know everything! – Please, my darling, don’t forget that the boatman comes for his money on Monday. Well my dear, dear heart don’t be too sad. When you get this letter, it will only be another 14 days. Only! It’s really terrible.
Many many kisses from
your Mathilde
